5 fashion-dedicated museums to visit

This article is dedicated to all those who will choose to spend their summer vacations away from sunny beaches and instead spend their vacations in art cities or major capitals of the world. And you know, museums are the first destination once you arrive in a new city .
So I decided to suggest 5 museums dedicated to fashion that you must necessarily visit if you are in one of these cities. You’re welcome!

1 – Met – New York, USA

If you are in the Big Apple, you can in no way fail to visit the Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art (Met) on Fifth Avenue. Opened on Feb. 20, 1872, the MET is one of the world’s largest art galleries as well as the nerve center of New York art. Within the museum exists the Anna Wintour Costume Center–named after the editor-in-chief of Vogue America–a wing that houses the Costume Institute collection, where the most important and exclusive charity fundraising gala of all , the Met Gala, is held each year.

2 – Museo Cristóbal Balenciaga – Getaria, Spain

The Basque Country is an absolute wonder. The city of Getaria is home to the Cristóbal Balenciaga Museum, birthplace of the “master of all couturiers”and is a public institution dedicated to studying and keeping alive the memory of the Spanish designer who founded Balenciaga.
Inaugurated in 2011, it was the first major museum in the world dedicated exclusively to a single designer in such a way as to highlight the impact and relevance that Cristóbal Balenciaga’s work has had and continues to have in the world of fashion, art and design.

3 – Museo Yves Saint Laurent – Paris, France

5,000 square meters, opened in October 2017, in the heart of Paris hosting drawings, videos, photos and sketches dedicated to the wonderful work of Yves Saint Laurent, inside the Fondation Pierre Bergé.
Here it will be possible to fully immerse oneself in what was the birth and development of the French fashion house born in 1061.

4 – Museo Christian Dior – Granville, France

In Normandy, then in northwest France, is Granville, a commune of just over 13,000 inhabitants where one of the most important and decisive fashion designers of all time, Christian Dior, grew up.
Villa Les Rhumbs is a pink and gray house built on a cliff, and it is the home where Dior spent his childhood and to which he was always very attached and was a big source of inspiration for him. The mansion was transformed into the Christian Dior Museum in 1988 and has since housed stories and objects that have shaped the history of the French fashion house.

5 – Gucci Garden – Florence, Italy

A city of art par excellence, Florence is the city of museums. Among them, however, I would like to point out the Gucci Garden, opened by Alessandro Michele in 2018 inside the Palazzo della Marcanzia in the Tuscan capital. Once there you will be able to immerse yourself in the history of the fashion house, buy limited collections in the boutique and taste Massimo Bottura’s extraordinary dishes at the Gucci Osteria.
