HAVING thick thighs can be a nightmare when it comes to finding comfortable and flattering clothes, especially in the summer months.
But even when you take the dreaded chub rub out of the equation, some clothes still don’t work great on thick thighs, at least according to this fashion whizz.
Chi Li revealed some of the best and worst items that can make or break an outfit if you have big thighs.
Some of them might even surprise you.
The worst styles for thick thighs
Long jackets and tops
Although it might feel like second nature to grab a long jacket or throw on an oversized top to help cover thick thighs, it’s actually one of the worst things you could do.
Chi explained: “The problem is wherever your jacket ends it’s going to draw attention to that area.”
Opting for a shorter jacket or top will move the focal point and make your thighs appear smaller.
Slip dresses and skirts
This style is a big no-no for thick thighs because of the clingy fabric they’re usually made from.
“These are great if you want to emphasise every inch of your curves but if you have bigger thighs this is like putting a magnifier on them,” the fashion guru said.
Anything with a skinny leg isn’t going to work well for thick thighs, that is of course unless you want to show them off.
But if you’re plan is to look more proportional skinny jeans will do exactly the opposite.
Chi said that skinny styles aren’t on trend right now, so you should probably avoid them anyway.
If you have thick thighs you probably already know what a nightmare it is to find a good pair of denim shorts.
Not only are they the worst for chub rub, but they can be really restrictive since there’s rarely any stretch in the fabric.
Although they can look stylish, because they also cling to your thighs they’re also going to make them look even bigger.
“They’re going to draw all the attention to your bottom half, especially in lighter colours like white,” Chi said.

Wide leg trousers
Anything with a wide leg is going to skim over your thighs and help decrease the look of them.
“It doesn’t matter if it’s wide leg jeans, trousers or jumpsuits, anything with a wide leg shape will balance out your thicker thighs.”
this style of dress should be to go-to for anyone who wants to make their thighs look smaller.
The fashion pro explained that since the skirt of the dress already has some volume the size of your thighs will be hidden underneath.
Not only are they back on trend but they are perfect if you want to hide your thighs and elongate your legs.
Chi said: “Flare legs have a wider bottom that works perfectly to balance out your wider hips and thighs.”
A crop top might be the last thing you want to wear if you want to cover up, but according to Chi there’s a way to do it right.
You can always wear high waited trousers or an A-line skirt and a crop to show less skin but still get the same look.
She said: “Because they’re further away from your thighs they’re actually drawing attention away from that area.”
